The Golden Maverick: Static in the Attic
Welcome to Static in the Attic with The Golden Maverick.
The show is broadcast live on a Tuesday evening between 8pm and 10pm (GMT) from the converted attic space of my house in Dublin city. It’s beamed to the PowerFM.org studio and from there it’s beamed to the rest of the internet world. If you listen in you’ll hear a wide spectrum of music, covering genres including jazz, funk, reggae, electronica and there will be plenty of rambling from my good self.
I’ve been presenting shows on PowerFM for more several years. I started in 1996 when my mate Ross (Don Rosco) invited me to play some records on his show. Throughout this time I’ve had the pleasure of meeting (and sometimes working with) a number of Ireland’s creative characters. Some of the more recent examples of related activities are:
The Underground Exhibition – curated by Dennis McNulty this exhibition charting the shift in underground music culture here in Dublin over a fifteen year period.
The Candy Collective website – a website and series of talks and publications by some of Ireland’s talented graphic designers, artists and photographers and international guests.
The Matt Vinyl blog – as created and written by me for about two years on the blogosphere
I was kindly invited to participate the very first of the Banter series back in July 2009. It was hosted by Jim Carroll (Irish Times) and also featured Paul McLoone (Today FM & The Undertones). It was a discussion on the state of Irish music radio (past and present). It was a great buzz. Here’s the link to the podcast. The Banter series continues apace and you can check for upcoming discussions on the Bodytonic website website.
I’ve been working in a book on Dublin Club Flyers from the 1990’s for the past few years that I’ll probably never get around to finishing but hope springs eternal.
I’m always interested in hearing from any listeners so if you want to get in touch you can contact me: maverick at powerfm.org.
