Pauly Martin: In The Light Of The Miracle
Pauly Martin aka Platinum Ray aka Platters, brings a playful, party style of mixing to his DJ sets by mixing vinyl records with different flavours of dance and electronic sounds. He is never afraid to get abstract and wonky with his selections, although it is his intuitive ability to play classic records amongst the underground sounds that gets people dancing. In the clubs Pauly often plays records with distinct 4/4 rhythms leaning towards 80s house and jack-trax. However, one can expect to hear everything from Soul, Funk, Disco and House blended with Electro and Techno to Industrial, EBM, 80s Synth-Pop, Ambient and Electronica. As Platinum Ray says, “When I play records I try to find ways of putting together music which is at once spontaneous and unexpected but also rewarding. I don’t think of electronic music as being futuristic or elitist, I think of it as being celebratory. I am interested in making people dance to music which is sometimes challenging, but always enjoyable.”
Pauly has also produced music with Dublin-based musicians such as Educution, Spectac and Sunken Foal as well as producing his own compositions, some of which can be heard here. Platinum Ray’s SoundCloud profile is regularly updated with recordings of sets from recent shows, podcasts and studio mixes which can be heard at here.
